How we approach gravel
A gravel area is only as good as what's underneath it. Lay gravel straight onto soil and within a season it sinks, weeds come through and it ruts underfoot or under tyre. We excavate, lay a compacted sub-base and a weed membrane, then the gravel, so it stays put and drains properly.
Edges matter. Without firm edge restraints the gravel spreads into the lawn and the beds. We set kerbs, timber or metal edging so the gravel is contained and the line stays crisp — the difference between a gravel area that looks tidy and one that looks a mess after a winter.
Gravel suits driveways, paths and informal garden areas, and it's one of the most permeable surfaces, so it deals with our Irish rain well. We help you choose the right stone — golden gravel, granite chips or a self-binding gravel for a firmer path — for the look and the use.

Frequently asked
Is gravel good for a driveway?
Yes, on a proper base. Gravel is one of the most permeable driveway surfaces, so it handles our Irish rain well, and it's good value. We lay a compacted sub-base and membrane beneath it so it doesn't rut or sink, and edge it so it stays contained.
Will weeds come through the gravel?
A weed membrane beneath the gravel stops most weeds coming up from below. Some wind-blown seeds will still germinate on the surface, but they pull easily. A proper base and membrane keep weeding to a minimum.
How deep should the gravel be?
Deep enough to cover the membrane and give a good surface — usually around 40–50mm of gravel over a compacted base. Too thin and the membrane shows; too deep and it's hard to walk or drive on. We lay it at the right depth for the use.
Do you supply the gravel as well as install it?
Yes. We supply the gravel and the base materials, and install the whole area — base, membrane, edges and gravel — so it's one job and one clear price. You don't have to source the stone yourself.
